# Google Search Console

## Google Search Console Integration

Connect your Google Search Console (GSC) to Cuppa to unlock powerful SEO insights and content optimization features. GSC data powers many of Cuppa's most valuable features.

### What You Can Do

* **Import existing rankings** to understand what's already working
* **Discover content opportunities** based on your actual search performance
* **Track keyword positions** over time
* **Feed the Link Engine** with real ranking data for smarter internal linking
* **Analyze content gaps** between what you rank for and what you could target
* **Power SEO Clusters** with real search data

***

### Prerequisites

Before connecting, you'll need:

1. A **Google Search Console** account with verified sites
2. **Owner or Full access** to the property you want to connect
3. A Cuppa account on **Power plan or higher**

***

### Step 1: Connect Google Search Console

1. Go to **Team Settings** → **Integrations**
2. Find **Google Search Console** in the Connections section
3. Click **Connect GSC**
4. Sign in with your Google account
5. **Authorize Cuppa** to access your Search Console data

> 💡 **Tip**: Use the same Google account that owns or has full access to your GSC properties.

***

### Step 2: Select Your Property

After authorizing, Cuppa will show all properties you have access to:

1. Select the **property** you want to connect
2. Choose the property type:
   * **Domain property** (covers all subdomains) - Recommended
   * **URL prefix** (specific subdomain/path only)
3. Click **Connect**

Cuppa will verify the connection and start syncing your data.

***

### Step 3: Wait for Initial Sync

The first sync may take a few minutes depending on how much data is in your GSC account. You'll see:

* **Syncing...** while data is being pulled
* **Connected** when sync is complete
* **Last synced: \[date]** showing when data was last updated

***

### What Data Gets Synced

| GSC Data | What Cuppa Does With It |
| --------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| **Keywords you rank for** | Powers SEO Clusters, Link Engine suggestions |
| **Current positions** | Identifies optimization opportunities |
| **Click & impression data** | Prioritizes high-potential keywords |
| **Pages indexed** | Maps your existing content structure |
| **Click-through rates** | Identifies title/meta improvements |

### Features Powered by GSC

#### SEO Clusters

With GSC connected, SEO Clusters can:

* Show keywords you **already rank for** (positions 1-100)
* Identify **quick wins** (keywords on page 2-3 you can push to page 1)
* Find **content gaps** (topics you don't have content for yet)
* Suggest which existing pages to **update vs. create new**

#### Link Engine

GSC data enhances the Link Engine by:

* Knowing which pages rank for which keywords
* Suggesting internal links to **boost underperforming pages**
* Prioritizing links to pages with **high impressions but low clicks**

#### Content Strategy

GSC insights inform:

* Which topics are **already working** for your site
* Where you have **topical authority** to build on
* What keywords you're **close to ranking** for (position 8-20)

#### Brand Research

When analyzing your brand, Cuppa uses GSC data to understand:

* Your site's **current topical focus**
* Which content types perform best
* Your **competitive landscape** based on actual rankings

***

### Sites Without GSC

You can add sites to Cuppa **without GSC connection**. Here's what changes:

| Feature | With GSC | Without GSC |
| ---------------- | --------------------------- | --------------------------------- |
| SEO Clusters | Uses real ranking data | Uses estimated data |
| Link Engine | Highly accurate suggestions | Good suggestions based on content |
| Content Strategy | Data-driven recommendations | AI-powered recommendations |
| Brand Research | Includes ranking insights | Based on content analysis only |

> 💡 **Recommendation**: Connect GSC for the best experience, but Cuppa works great without it too!

***

### Multiple Properties

#### Domain vs. URL Prefix

* **Domain property** (e.g., `sc-domain:example.com`): Covers all subdomains and protocols
* **URL prefix** (e.g., `https://www.example.com/`): Only covers that specific prefix

If you have both, connect the **domain property** for the most complete data.

#### Multiple Sites in Cuppa

Each Cuppa site can connect to one GSC property. If you manage multiple sites:

1. Create separate sites in Cuppa for each domain
2. Connect each to its corresponding GSC property

***

### Data Refresh

GSC data is synced:

* **Automatically** every 24 hours
* **On-demand** when you click "Sync Now"

> ⏱️ **Note**: GSC data has a natural 2-3 day delay from Google. This is a GSC limitation, not Cuppa's.

***

### Troubleshooting

#### "No properties found"

* Ensure you're signed into the correct Google account
* Verify you have Owner or Full access to the property
* Check that the property is verified in GSC

#### "Connection failed"

* Try disconnecting and reconnecting
* Ensure your Google account hasn't revoked access
* Check if your GSC property is still verified

#### "Data not updating"

* GSC data has a 2-3 day natural delay from Google
* Click "Sync Now" to force a refresh
* Check the "Last synced" timestamp

#### "Missing keywords"

* GSC only shows keywords with impressions
* Very low-volume keywords may not appear
* New content takes time to accumulate GSC data

#### "Wrong property connected"

1. Go to **Team Settings** → **Integrations**
2. Click **Disconnect** on GSC
3. Reconnect and select the correct property

***

### Privacy & Security

* Cuppa uses **OAuth 2.0** for secure Google authentication
* We only request **read access** to your Search Console data
* Your GSC data is stored securely and **never shared**
* You can revoke access anytime from your Google account or Cuppa

#### Revoking Access

**From Cuppa:**

1. Go to **Team Settings** → **Integrations**
2. Click **Disconnect** on GSC

**From Google:**

1. Go to [myaccount.google.com/permissions](https://myaccount.google.com/permissions)
2. Find "Cuppa" and click **Remove Access**

***

### FAQ

**Do I need GSC to use Cuppa?** No! Cuppa works great without GSC. However, connecting GSC unlocks additional data-driven features.

**Which plan includes GSC integration?** GSC integration is available on **Power plan and higher**.

**Can I connect multiple GSC accounts?** Each team can connect one Google account. If you need to manage multiple GSC accounts, you can switch by disconnecting and reconnecting.

**How often is data synced?** Automatically every 24 hours, or on-demand when you click "Sync Now."

**Why is my GSC data 2-3 days old?** This is a Google Search Console limitation. GSC data is always delayed by 2-3 days from Google's side.

**Does connecting GSC affect my search rankings?** No. Cuppa only reads your GSC data. We never modify anything in your Search Console.

**Can team members see my GSC data?** Team members with access to your Cuppa team can see GSC data for connected sites. Manage team access in Team Settings.

**What happens if I disconnect GSC?** Features will continue to work using cached data, but won't receive updates. You can reconnect anytime.

**Is my GSC data used to train AI models?** No. Your GSC data is used only for your account's features and is never used for model training.
